Fire in 1900

From the Illustrated London News, May 26th 1900. The photograph shows the severity of the damage to the auditorium, seen from the stagehouse. The intensity of the fire has destroyed the stage and buckled the supporting girders, seen in the foreground. Perhaps the sole onlooker is one of the Barnards, the proprietors of the Theatre Royal, the recently and most  prestigious entertainment palace in the High Street at the time.
