Soon after 1955, following the theatre's closure, this wall was erected to divide the building into two separate premises. The Trust managed to demolish the wall late in 2001, a triumph for the Trust and fuelling hopes that the restoration had started. The photograph shows the enormity of the stage - this was a serious theatre capable of showing the most ambitious performances.
