The Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of York is at the forefront of interdisciplinary research into the medieval period. Pulling together staff from the faculties of History, Archaeology, Art History and English into one department based in the King’s Manor in York City Centre, it forms the most forward-looking Medieval Studies department in the country; supported by its close affiliation with the York Minster Library, the largest library of its kind in England, and the York Archaeological Trust.
This website aims to promote interdisciplinary research into all aspects of medieval life - for example, for a thorough appreciation of attitudes to dress in the fourteenth century, the art, literature and archaeology of the period must be pulled together so no evidence is missed.
